Everything You Need to Know About Whoodle Size

Whoodle Size Guide

Mini and Standard Whoodles demonstrating Whoodle size differences and growth expectations

What to Expect as Your Whoodle Puppy Grows 🐾
Curious how big a Whoodle gets? One of the most common questions families ask is what size they can expect as their puppy grows. Because Whoodles are a cross between a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier and a Poodle, size can vary depending on the parents and whether the puppy is an F1 or F1b Whoodle.

Whoodles are often considered a wonderful medium-sized companion, offering a balance between being large enough for adventures and small enough to fit comfortably into family life. Their adaptable size is one of the many reasons families are drawn to this loving doodle breed.

At RockyRiverWhoodles, my focus is on raising thoughtfully bred F1 & F1b Whoodles with strong temperaments and family-friendly personalities. While every puppy is unique, I carefully select my pairings with future size, structure, and long-term compatibility in mind

Keep in mind that genetics can vary, and adult size is always an estimate rather than a guarantee. Parent size, genetics, and individual growth patterns all play a role in how a puppy matures.

If you’re searching for Whoodle puppies and have questions about anticipated size, I’m always happy to help families find a puppy that best fits their home and lifestyle.

How Big Do Whoodles Get?
Whoodle size can vary depending on whether they are Mini, Medium, or Standard. Most Whoodles range anywhere from 20–60+ pounds, with height and size influenced by the parents used in the pairing.

Mini Whoodle: ~20–30 lbs
Medium Whoodle: ~30–45 lb
Standard Whoodle: ~45–60+ lbs

Because Whoodles are a mixed breed, no two puppies are exactly alike. Genetics, parent size, and generation can all play a role in adult size.

Whoodle Growth Chart (Estimated)

While every Whoodle grows at its own pace, the chart below provides a general idea of how a medium-sized Whoodle may develop. Genetics, nutrition, activity level, and whether your puppy is an F1 or F1b Whoodle can all influence growth.

                                   Typical Weight

Age                            (Medium Whoodle)

8 Weeks                     8–12 lbs

3 Months                   12–18 lbs

4 Months                   18–25 lbs

6 Months                   25–35 lbs

9 Months                   30–40 lbs

Adult                          30–50 lbs

These are general estimates and individual puppies may mature differently.

When Do Whoodles Stop Growing?

Most Whoodles continue growing through their first year, with many reaching their full height around 10–12 months and continuing to fill out until 12–18 months.

What Affects Adult Size?
Adult size is influenced by several factors, with genetics and parent size playing the biggest role. In Whoodles, both the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and Poodle contribute to a puppy’s adult size. Whether a puppy matures into a Mini, Medium, or Standard size Whoodle depends on the size of the parents, genetics, and the specific pairing. Nutrition, overall health, and individual growth patterns can also influence how a puppy develops during its first year.

How Can I Estimate My Whoodle’s Adult Size?

While no breeder can guarantee an exact adult size, there are several factors that help estimate how big a Whoodle puppy may become. The most important predictor is the size of the puppy’s parents. Puppies from smaller parents are more likely to mature into smaller adults, while puppies from larger parents generally grow to be larger. Other factors that influence adult size:

Parent size: The height and weight of both the Wheaten and the Poodle parents.

Generation: Whether your puppy is an F1 or F1b Whoodle can sometimes influence siz, depending on the parents.

Genetics: Every puppy inherits a unique combination of traits from both parents.

Nutrition and overall health: Proper nutrition and veterinary care support healthy growth and development.

Male vs Female Size Differences
Male Whoodles are often slightly larger and heavier than females, but the difference is usually modest. A puppy’s adult size is influenced much more by genetics and the size of its parents than by gender alone. Both male and female Whoodles make wonderful family companions, and personality can vary from one puppy to another.

What Size Whoodle Is Right for Your Family?

The right Whoodle size depends on your lifestyle, activity level, and personal preference. While all Whoodles are known for their affectionate personalities and intelligence, different sizes may be a better fit for different homes.

Mini Whoodles are a great choice for families looking foe a smaller companion that’s easier to travel with and well suited for apartments or homes with limited space.

Medium Whoodles offer a wonderful balance of size and versatility. They are large enough to enjoy outdoor adventures while remaining easy to manage, making them a popular choice for many families.

Standard Whoodles are ideal for households that want a larger companion for walking, hiking, playing, and other outdoor activities.

I focus on raising Medium and Standard sized Whoodles because I believe they offer an ideal combination of management size, athletic ability, non-shedding coats, and loving companionship for a wide variety of families.

What Size Crate Does a Whoodle Need?

Choosing the right crate size helps your Whoodle feel secure while providing enough room to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. A crate that is too large can make potty training more difficult, while one that’s too small won’t allow your puppy to rest comfortably.

As a general guide:

   Mini Whoodles: 30” crate

   Medium Whoodles: 36” crate

   Standard Whoodles: 42” crate

If you’re bringing home a young puppy, consider using a crate with a divider. This allows you to increase the available space as your Whoodle grows, making them a popular crate more useful throughout puppyhood and into adulthood.

RockyRiverWhoodles Size Expectations
At RockyRiverWhoodles, anticipated adult size estimates are provided to help families choose the best fit for their home and lifestyle. While every puppy develops at its own pace and no breeder can guarantee an exact adult size, I use the size of the parents, genetics, previous litters, and each puppy’s individual development to provide the most accurate estimate possible. My goal is to help every family find a Whoodle that fits their lifestyle for years to come.
