Whoodles are loved for their soft coats and unique appearance, and one of the most exciting things about the breed is the variety of colors and patterns they can have. Because Whoodles are a mix of the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier and Poodle, coat color can vary greatly depending on genetics and parent traits. No two puppies are exactly alike, and many Whoodles change as they grow and mature.
At RockyRiverWhoodles, we love the variety each litter can bring. While every puppy is unique, these are some of the beautiful colors and patterns we commonly see.
Coat colors may include Red, Fawn, Apricot, Wheaten, Cream, Champagne, Black Mahogany, and Classic Black. Some puppies are born with rich, dark coloring and gradually lighten over time, while others maintain deeper coloring into adulthood.
Because genetics play such a large role, coat color can continue developing throughout puppyhood and beyond.
Abstract
Abstract markings typically describe a mostly solid-colored puppy with smaller white accents. These markings are often seen on the chest, chin, paws, belly, or face. Abstract puppies can have subtle white touches or more noticeable markings while still appearing primarily one color overall.
Parti
Parti coloring refers to larger white areas combined with another color. These puppies often have unique patches and markings, making each one truly one-of-a-kind. No two parti puppies look exactly the same.
Sable
Sable coats often have darker-tipped hairs layered over a lighter base color. This can create a shaded appearance and puppies may change significantly as they mature. Some sable puppies become lighter over time while others keep deeper shading.
Agouti
Agouti coats contain individual hairs with multiple color bands, creating a blended or more dramatic appearance. This pattern can create beautiful depth and often gives a puppy a more naturally shaded look.
Solid
Solid-colored puppies are primarily one color throughout the body with minimal pattern variation.
Yes β many Whoodle puppies experience coat color changes as they mature. It is common for puppies to lighten, soften in color, or develop more noticeable pattern changes over time. Genetics from the Poodle side can strongly influence fading and coat development.
Puppy coats are often just the beginning, which means your Whoodleβs adult appearance may continue evolving as they grow.
One of the things we love most about Whoodles is that each puppy develops their own look and personality. Genetics can create exciting surprises, making every litter special and every puppy uniquely their own.
Whether your puppy is Wheaten, Sable, Abstract, Parti, or somewhere in between, their loving personality is always the best part π
